Longevity & wear 3

Holds up reasonably on normal skin in normal conditions, but the dewy finish turns shiny and coverage fades faster in heat, humidity, or on oilier skin types.

Value for money 3

At just over £25, it's a fair price for a well-liked moisturiser with a bit of tint, but weak as a "two products in one" purchase given the coverage and SPF gaps, so it's not the money-saver it's positioned as.

Coverage 2

Multiple owners are clear it doesn't function as a real foundation substitute, only a light, sheer tint. Fine for evening out already-decent skin, not for anyone wanting to cover something up.

Hydration & skin feel 4

Consistently praised for comfort and texture, particularly on sensitive and mature skin. This is the strongest part of the product.

Shade accuracy 2.5

No direct reviews of this specific shade, but a consistent brand-wide pattern of Porcelain running too pale and Fair running too dark or orange for some buyers, plus reports of batch-to-batch inconsistency. Buy with some caution if you can't swatch first.

The review

The pitch is the classic rushed-morning one: one tube instead of two steps, moisturiser and foundation in the same swipe. Lovely idea when you're trying to get out the door with a four-year-old who has strong opinions about socks. The question is whether it actually replaces both jobs, or just does one of them wearing the other one's name.

On the hydration and skin-feel side, it does what it says. The reports here are consistent: nice texture, comfortable on sensitive and mature skin, doesn't sit heavy or cakey. If what you want is a moisturiser with a bit of colour to even things out, this earns its keep.

On the "makeup foundation" side, it doesn't. More than one owner has made this exact point bluntly, one review is literally titled "NOT FOR COVERUP." If your skin already looks fairly even and you just want to soften it, fine. If you're hoping to cover redness, dullness, or anything you'd normally reach for a base for, you'll be disappointed. It's a moisturiser with a hint of tint, not a foundation you can build coverage with, whatever the "build to your desired level" line on the box suggests.

No SPF in the current formula. Given the entire point is doing your skincare and colour in one step so you can get out the door faster, that's a real gap. There's an older mention of SPF15 from a previous version of this product, which suggests it may have been reformulated to drop sun protection at some point. Either way, if you're relying on this to be your one-and-done step, you still need to layer sunscreen underneath it, so it isn't quite the time-saver the marketing implies.

Shade matching is the part to be careful about. There isn't a deep pool of reviews specifically on this Porcelain/Fair shade, but the pattern across Laura Geller's shade range as a whole is worth knowing before you buy blind: Porcelain has been described as running ghostly-pale on some skin, while Fair has come out too dark or too orange for others, enough that buyers have sized down a shade or blended two together to get it right. Cool, pink-toned skin in particular tends to find most shades in this range leaning yellow or golden. One buyer also found her reordered tube didn't match her first one, and got no help from customer service once she was past the 30-day return window. If you're ordering this without swatching it in person first, treat the shade name as a rough guide rather than a guarantee, and check your return window before you commit to a full-size tube.

Wear through the day is fine but not bulletproof. The dewy finish is nice fresh out of the tube, but it gets shiny and the tint softens faster on oily skin or in humid weather. If that's your skin type or your climate, you'll want a powder on standby to keep it in check by mid-afternoon.

Worth flagging separately: one buyer reported being sent the plain, untinted moisturiser instead of this tinted version, repeatedly, from Laura Geller directly. Worth double-checking what actually turns up when it arrives.

Verdict: This is a genuinely nice hydrating base for anyone whose skin is already fairly even and just wants a bit of glow and colour without a full makeup routine. It is not a foundation replacement, it doesn't have SPF, and the shade range needs a bit of caution if you're buying without swatching first. If you need actual coverage, or you were sold on the "one less step, sun protection included" idea, this isn't it. If you just want your moisturiser to look a bit more finished, it does that well.

Frequently asked questions

Does this have SPF?

No, the current formula does not include sun protection. An older version of the product referenced SPF15, so this may have changed in a reformulation. You'll need to apply sunscreen separately underneath it.

Can I use this instead of my usual foundation?

Not really. Owners are fairly consistent that it works well as a tinted moisturiser but doesn't deliver meaningful coverage, so if you need to cover redness, dullness, or blemishes, a proper foundation is still the better choice.

Will Porcelain/Fair actually match my skin tone?

Treat it as a rough guide rather than a guarantee. Across Laura Geller's shade range, Porcelain has run too pale for some and Fair too dark or orange for others, and cooler, pink-toned skin tends to find the range leans yellow. Swatch in person if you can, and check the return window before buying a full-size tube.
