Samsung lists the G51F at $249.99 and it spends a lot of its life on sale around $150. Judge it at the sale price, because that's when you should buy it, and at $150 a 27-inch 1440p 180Hz panel with a stand that actually moves is a straightforwardly good deal. Check the live price before you pull the trigger, though. Monitor discounts rotate constantly.

Start with the resolution, because that's the real upgrade here. 1440p at 27 inches works out to about 109 pixels per inch, and it's 78% more pixels than 1080p on the same size panel. In games that's finer detail at distance. On a desktop it's the difference between having two browser windows open and having two useful browser windows open. I spend most of my day in an editor and a terminal, and going from 1080p to 1440p at this size is the one spec change I noticed every single day.

Now the number Samsung would rather you skipped past. The listing says 1ms, and that 1ms is an MPRT figure, not grey-to-grey. MPRT measures perceived motion blur and a manufacturer can improve it with backlight tricks. It tells you close to nothing about how quickly the pixels actually change state. This is a VA panel, and VA's known weakness is slow dark transitions, which show up as smearing in dark scenes. Publishing MPRT instead of GtG isn't proof the GtG is bad. Companies just don't usually hide their good numbers.

Contrast is the other side of that same trade. Samsung specs it at 3,000:1, roughly triple what a typical IPS panel manages. Night scenes and dark games look noticeably better on a decent VA than on a cheap IPS, and that is the actual reason to choose this over a fast-IPS competitor. You're buying black levels and paying for them in motion clarity. If you play competitive shooters for anything other than fun, take the other side of that trade and buy the IPS.

Ignore the HDR10 badge entirely. 300 nits and 72% NTSC coverage is standard-dynamic-range hardware that happens to accept an HDR signal. Monitor marketing remains undefeated at making a checkbox sound exciting.

Ports are two HDMI 2.0, one DisplayPort 1.4, and a headphone jack. That covers a PC and a console with an input to spare. No USB-C, no speakers. One practical note the spec sheet won't spell out for you: HDMI 2.0 doesn't have the bandwidth for 1440p at 180Hz, so run DisplayPort to your PC and leave HDMI for the console. There's a single USB-A port with no upstream connection listed, which means it isn't a normal hub, and I'd plan around it rather than on it.

The stand is where cheap monitors almost always cut, and this one doesn't. Height, tilt, swivel, and rotation to portrait, plus 100 x 100 VESA if you'd rather put it on an arm. At $150 that's genuinely unusual. Most monitors in this bracket hand you a tilt hinge and a shrug.

The honest gap in this review is longevity. This is a recent model and I don't have months on one, so I can't tell you how the panel uniformity or the stand's friction holds up at the six month mark, which is where monitors actually disappoint people. What I can tell you is that the specification is sound and the trade-offs are the normal VA trade-offs rather than anything weird.

Buy it if your GPU is comfortable at 1440p and you want one screen that does games and work without spending $300. Skip it if you're a competitive player who'd feel the smear, if you actually want HDR and not the sticker, or if your GPU is already working hard at 1080p. 78% more pixels is 78% more work.

No. The HDMI ports are 2.0, which doesn't have the bandwidth for 1440p at 180Hz. Use the DisplayPort 1.4 input for your PC if you want the full refresh rate, and save the HDMI ports for a console or a laptop.
