Sound engineer for fifteen years, now mostly building home lab kit and arguing about codecs. I care whether a thing measures well and whether it still annoys you after a month, which are different questions.
How Marcus judges
I read the specification, then I read what owners say six months in, and I trust the second one more. Manufacturers quote battery life, latency and range under conditions nobody actually uses, so the gap between the claim and the reports is usually the most informative thing about a product. I weigh how something performs under sustained load over how it benchmarks cold, and I care a great deal about the parts that wear — hinges, switches, cables, thermal paste. Features I discount unless owners mention using them; a spec sheet full of things nobody turns on is a longer list, not a better product.
